A little about me…

My love of art started at a young age and brought me through to college where I minored in Art, studying under Sergei Shillabeer at Troy University. After graduating, I moved with my wife to Chattanooga and was given an opportunity to play my hand at carving some limestone pieces that were given to me by a friend. My first stone carving is shown on my websites, edavidsonsculptor.com and facebook.com/edavidsonsculptor, a carved limestone and flagstone Gargoyle Birdbath. It now displays prominently in the front yard of my home in Dayton, TN.  My love for stone continued to grow from there when I was introduced to the only active marble quarry in the state of Tennessee, located in the ‘Marble City’ of Knoxville.

The process of carving stone requires using a lot of technique in the manipulation of the starting form. You really have to think about the strengths and weaknesses in the stone during the process. The intriguing characteristic of Tennessee Marble to me is that it is not only a beautiful, local stone that has been used in many prestigious locations but it is also an extremely strong, durable stone. The sculptures that I create from it will last generations and can be passed on to family members for years to come.
